Every July and August, I
help seniors stay safe and healthy by coordinating the
"Beat the Heat Campaign" and the "Fan Fair"
program.  My career traditionally has been focused on raising money
and awareness — and less on direct program coordination.
Therefore, this program is special to me since I make a personal,
direct difference to such a large amount of clients.  I am so fortunate to
be able to be part of this needed effort for so many years!

Like other years, we had plans to
give away free box fans, provide free air conditioned facilities during a heat
emergency, and provide information and referral services to seniors in
need.  In honor of our 60th Anniversary, and to celebrate the giveaway of
our 10,000th free box fan, we developed an award-winning community relations
campaign to raise funds and raise visibility.  We utilized community and
senior volunteers to run a heat tent outside the building on the Avenue of the
Arts.  We solicited Whole Foods Market to host a special fan drive and
community day.  Other events included ice cream socials, in-center heat
activities, and a $500 give-a-way to help seniors purchase air conditioners and
weather proofing supplies.  Ambassador of Hockey and former
Flyer Bob Kelly joined the campaign to help distribute  the
10,000th free box fan, sponsored by Comcast-Spectacor and EXIT REALTY The Tri-State
Group.  Due to the successful public relations efforts, the second and
final day of the fan distribution saw 210+ seniors claim every single fan in 35
minutes — making it the fastest Fan Fair yet!  Check out coverage,
including interviews with me, below — and in the portfolio section of my site:
