When I first heard of the Philadelphia Science Festival I thought it sounded a bit geeky and too low key for my taste. (Yawn). I had never thought about science as being “fun.” Boy was I wrong! The schedule for this year festivities came out and I was eating my words (literally). This year the festival will features a series of 33 Cafe’ Events that involve science but also FOOD, and anyone who follows Philly Loves Fun knows that I LOVE food!
Back in the day, the Founding Fathers used Philadelphia’s bars and restaurants as prime gathering places for dialogue and debate. During the Philadelphia Science Festival, our renowned restaurants, bars, and cafes will once again be hot spots for fun and exciting discourse — this time about the science behind the foods we eat. I can’t wait!

• CHOCOLATE, SEX, AND SCANDAL: THE ROLE OF AN INNOCENT BEAN IN THE COURTS OF EUROPE on Thursday, April 26 at 6:30 PM, DiBruno Brothers, 1730 Chestnut Street, Philadelphia, PA
Ever wonder why we react so strongly to that little seed of the cacao tree? Its trace elements affect our psychology as well as our taste buds. Enjoy samples of chocolates as we learn how to listen to its symphony and hear its intriguing history on the world stage. Tickets: $5
