Independence Day marks the official start of what promises to be an amazing summer.  While I haven’t lived here for very long (or HAVE I?), I seem to have fallen into a relaxing routine that includes the Philly Pops,  walking around Old City and fireworks at Penn’s Landing.  While the birthplace of our nation is normally my year-round personal playground, this year I thought I’d mix up the July 4th fun with a needed visit to the Jersey ShoreCan you say road trip?!

Atlantic City is rolling out the red (white and blue) carpet with a host of new (and improved) activities and resorts – just in  just in time for my patriotic adventure.  It’s a great vacation spot as it’s close to home, yet far enough away to let your hair down.  Join me for a midweek adventure in a city that is about sparkle and shine, in more ways than one, this July 4th.

At 9:30pm, Atlantic City boasts a world-class firework display that is the largest in the state.  The 20 minute display, titled “Let it Rock,”  will be visible to spectators for a one mile stretch of the Boardwalk and beach from Revel Resort on Metropolitan Avenue to The Atlantic Club on Boston Avenue.   Pop star Kevin Rudolf will then perform a free concert at Kennedy Plaza including “Let it Rock” and select songs from his new album.  Sounds fun, right? Hold on to your hats…

New Jersey’s “must see” fireworks and concert  pale only in comparison to the grand finale of the night – or is it a big, bright debut?   All eyes will turn from the sky to Boardwalk Hall for DUALITY, a cool sophisticated 3D spectacle that includes surround sound, theatrical lighting and the latest architectural video mapping technologies.  The 8 ½ minute show plays twice an hour, and it’s even visible from the beach.  The music is an original score. The instrumental soundtrack is a fresh take on mixing orchestral music, indie-pop sensibility and electronics.  Moment Factory, known for their work on Madonna’s new MDNA world tour, will bring this fascinating tale to life each and every night of the year.  The boardwalk experience was already fun, but now its going to be epic! – Click for Video Preview –

Out with the old and in with the new!  Golden Nugget transformed the Trump Marina Hotel and Casino into a modern day prospector’s paradise.  I am excited to check out their new spa and the outdoor, year-round pool.  The pictures of the fire pits, hot tubs, cabanas and sleek new bar look like they make for a fun time – day or night.   For now, I’m placing my money on Nugget as “Best bet on the marina!”

A new kid has moved onto the block!  Revel Resorts opened a $2.4 billion resort that makes you stop and simply say, “Wow!” From the lush casino floor, to multiple concert spaces, to the rooftop fire lounges and ten pools, Revel is giving fun a luxurious new twist.   Additionally, with 14 restaurants, Revel might just be the new “it” place to get our grub on — all in the name of blogging of course!

For years, Atlantic City tried and tried, but gays were resistant to its charms.  Every summer, I would try convince friends to take the short trip. Yet, I only heard a thunderous NO – until this year. What’s changed?  First, Resorts upped its cool factor with the first-ever gay bar and LGBT friendly shows (everyone like a good Diva, no?).  Pro Bar (formerly Prohibition) now boasts great tunes, colorful cocktails and great eye candy.  By day, Atlantic City puts the “Oh (my)” back into gay B-I-N-G-Oh with their new Out in A/C Campaign and Sunday teas. Add-in Miss’d America and so many venues for your Civil Union ceremony and A/C is now a place to have a gay old time!

With the launch of Duality, Revel, Nugget and Pro Bar, Atlantic City continues to add “something for everyone” and  solidify its standing as a world-class destination and a “must see” destination.  I haven’t even arrived, yet I think I’ve already hit the jackpot!

Stay tuned over the next several days as I bring you updates live and on location from the new Fourth of July hot spot.  (P.S. I am sure I will also tease you with great food shots as I eat my way from one end of the boardwalk to the other!)
