Philadelphia has a new secret to keep! (Shhh…) Diner En Blanc makes its debut in the City of Brotherly Love. Culinary and culture enthusiasts will join forces for unforgettable night of food and drink under the stars. Like many other buzz-worthy events, one draw of Diner En Blanc is the location — or should we say “lack of a location!?” Let the fun, and the mystery, begin..
This très chic picnic, imported from Paris, is part mystery tour, part pop-up feast and part je ne sais quoi. On Thursday, August 23, 2012, more than 1,000 guests will dress in white and converge upon a secret locale for what promises to be a unique night of elegance and magic. Dressing in white first scared us, as we don’t want to resemble a large marshmallow. However, we decided to hit the gym, cut back on the cupcakes and start shopping our hearts out!
While buying fun attire, picnic baskets and new linens are an important part of the fun, the first priority should be scoring a registration slot. The initial waiting list is now open at http://philadelphia.dinerenblanc.info. When registration officially opens in a few weeks, all waiting list members will receive notification to register themselves and a guest. At that time, registrants will select a meeting location for the day of the event. On August 23rd, once they arrive they will be taken to the secret and final location with tables, chairs, non-disposal supplies, great food and fine wine in tow.
Once location is out of the bag, the fun doesn’t stop! During the evening, diners will enhance the value of a Philadelphia space by participating in the unexpected. Dinner will be turned into an art form through beautifully planned seating arrangements, napkin waving, entertainment, photos and even sparklers. Endless food and wine choices will also add to the excitement of the event. Personally, we’re eager to spy what everyone else in town will take out of their picnic basket. (Maybe we can trade snacks like we used to do in the school lunchroom?) At the end of the night, diners fold up their tables, pack their dinnerware, gather their debris and sneak off into the night. We’ll leave the public space without a trace — and the next day no one will be the wiser…
The number of slots available for this first year are limited. Registration takes place on a first come, first served basis. Dîner en Blanc is BYOB and therefore all participants must be at least 21 years old. For more information on Dîner en Blanc Philadelphia visit http://dinerenblancphiladelphia.wordpress.com.
