Over the years, we’ve been happy to participate in many walks, runs and “a-thons” for wonderful charities. In fact, we fondly remember these benefits every time we look up from our desk. On the “wall of honor” we have framed and hung the most memorable shirts from these fundraisers. Instead of collecting cobwebs in the basement, we took t-shirts and turned them into art. They remind us of the important causes we have supported. Talk about recycling!
As a bunch of nonprofit junkies, we love to give back to the community. In fact, we try to volunteer and donate whenever possible. However, with a tough economy and lots of charities doing the asking, we find it harder to pick the beneficiaries of our support. After years of seeing the same events, courses and people, we were looking for something new and different to stand behind in 2012. Then we found the “it” cause of the year. Not only did we find a worthwhile project to support, but we also discovered an event that celebrates the “Philly fun” we live to write about… We first met up with this great organization when they fed us LOTS of wedding cake during “Let Them Eat Cake.” Now its time to get out our walking shoes for a new adventure. Join us…
This coming Sunday, September 23, 2012, City of Hope Philadelphia presents Walk for Hope to fight women’s cancers. The research that is funded by this walk is serious business. However, organizers are creating a festive environment and roster that shines with positivity, energy and life. Join the Philly Loves Fun team for this win win – walk with us or donate!
Shuttles run from 8-10 am and 12-3 pm from Headhouse Square/South Street (end) to Campbell’s Field (start). The 5K walk starts at 8:30am with registration that includes fun, food (or shall we say, “fuel!”) and entertainment. Vendors will include:
- New York Life Valley Forge
- The Walking Company
- Philadelphia Sightseeing Tour
- Old Navy Cherry Hill
- Brio Tuscan Grille Cherry Hill
- Philadelphia Circus Arts
- The Fruit Guys
- The Hughes Center
- Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society
- Philadelphia Weekly
- Gloucester County Institute of Technology
- Conestoga Bank
- Let’s Talk Cancer
At 10:00am, we set forth on an amazing course that takes us across the Benjamin Franklin Bridge to Philadelphia. This is on our “bucket list.” We will cross it off as we hit the mark exactly between New Jersey and Pennsylvania. After we Instagram shots from the bridge and check-in on Facebook, we will walk through Old City and head to Headhouse Square (on 2nd between South & Lombard). At the end of this adventure, we will partake in a festival finale of grand proportions, with music from the Mummer’s and Little Martha, full carnival games and prizes, and performances/demos by Philadelphia School of Circus Arts. Every participant will receive a Walk for Hope t-shirt and finish line gift. The after-event lunch party will ensue at Twisted Tail, with a special menu, quick turn around and cocktail special. Walking 5K is sure to stir up an appetite. In fact, we got hungry just thinking about it!
