A-performance-of-Cirque-D-007It seems like every weekend of the spring has been filled with two, three and even four amazing shows, festivals, new menu rollouts, parties and events that all demand our attention. While this had made for possibly the best spring ever in Philly, it has also left wondered where to spend our time. While there are so many quality things to do, one event leaped to the top of the pile and simply demanded attention. While the show is good, we found a local twist to make it all the more fun!

Starting tomorrow night, Cirque Du Soleil rolls into the Camden Waterfront with TOTEM, the fascinating journey of the human species from its original amphibian state to its ultimate desire to fly. The characters evolve on a stage evoking a giant turtle, the symbol of origin for many ancient civilizations. Inspired by many founding myths, TOTEM illustrates, through a visual and acrobatic language, the evolutionary progress of species. Somewhere between science and legend TOTEM explores the ties that bind Man to other species, his dreams and his infinite potential.

images (2)Nearly every Cirque show we have ever seen has blown our mind. We expect no less from TOTEM. This time around, however, we’re even more excited as there’s a special local angle that promises to make it even more epic. Greg Kennedy (and family) from Philadelphia School of Circus Arts will juggle his way back to Philly as local boy promises to delight us with his modern juggling routine. We’ve met him at the Germantown circus school, and we’ve seen him on national television, but this will be the first time we see him take to the big top during a Cirque show. Our inner-circus geek is more than excited!
