Sassafras Ice Cream Beer FloatToday, our new column #musteatnow takes us to Old City District to the charming and classy Sassafras Bar, Restaurant and Cafe. In case you haven’t noticed, its approximately 1.5 million degrees outside. Sassafras has the answer to keeping us cool while getting our drink on with their new beer floats. As a bonus, the floats feature a rare flavor of ice cream named after the bar. Read (and eat) on…

Sassafras ice cream is house-made in small batches that feature the delicate flavor of authentic sassafras, with hints of root beer and liquorice.  Just as the Sassafras tree is the only tree with four unique leaf patterns, those rascals Donal McCoy and Neil Laughlin have developed four special float pairings for $10 each that include  Crabbies Ginger Beer, Kasteel Rouge,  Rodenbach and Youngs Double Chocolate Stout.  Ice cream is also available without the beer in a three scoop dish. Either way, they have a winner!

Sassafras Chicken Po' BoyIf you thought the temperatures were rising, wait until you get some heat from the new Southern Fried Chicken Po’ Boy featuring chicken breast marinated in olive oil, garlic and parsley, fried in a spicy breading, on an Amoroso hoagie roll with shredded lettuce, tomato, red onion, mayo, and served with hand cut fries and a pickle spear.  We’ve actually sampled this sandwich not once, not twice, but three times in the last month. Our best tip: Get there for one before we eat them all, literally.

Stay tuned for other #musteatnow featured dishes and drinks, coming summer of 2013!
